The Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is the leading unit of its type in Pakistan, recognized regionally and internationally for the relevance, quality and extent of its work in support of public health and the development of primary health care systems.
The Global Network for Women’s and Children’s Health Research is the flagship research collaboration of the Reproductive Health research group at the Department of CHS. At the Global Network (GN) research site in Thatta, a prospective, population-based active surveillance of pregnancies is maintained. The data from the registry/surveillance also provides the mortality and morbidity outcomes for GN trials and helps investigators plan future studies.
The Project to understand and research preterm pregnancy outcome & stillbirth: South Asia (PURPOSe) is a prospective, observational study aimed to better understand causes of stillbirths and neonatal deaths among preterm live births in Pakistan. This study aims to evaluate the causes of stillbirth and neonatal death (<28 days) among preterm births using minimal invasive tissue sampling (MITS).
This is a grant funded, short-term contractual position.
You will be responsible to provide oversight on all software development, project management and data management activities which include:
developing and implementing innovative and sustainable strategies to ensure efficient work modules with minimal resources
providing high level advice on strategic planning, business opportunities andrisk management, and continuously looking for improvement to ensure high quality deliverables and adoption of appropriate tools and technology that helps research projects meet the standards
supervising data entries and ensuring the quality of data at the Data Management Unit and at the research field sites of the Population and Reproductive Health Section for all research projects
leading the DMS operations team and overseeing its functions, resources and output
mentoring and supporting the learning and development of team members
managing and facilitating multiple data management and technical teams to ensure that they meet targets and timely management of requests for all IT infrastructure related requirements of projects
liaising and creating a logical hub between local and international teams for addressing technical requirement specifications and/or communicating technological constraints
managing and overseeing the archive system; proactively using new technologies to address challenges for identified issues and suggesting technical solutions to field data collection and archiving
maintaining and developing smart phone applications, compiling the data received from all the research sites and maintaining central database and further ensuring consistency and integrity of data received
implementing software development methodologies, best practices to achieve the highest product quality while improving performance productivity
undertaking development and implementation of NEW software application both at the project and remote office, which aids management and research field teams to achieve their objectives
continuously enhancing system verification and validation processes, working closely with research field teams & Quality Assurance teams to create logical hub and ensuring timely execution of the process with high quality results across the research projects.
You should have:
a Masters degree in Software Engineering or Information System
Microsoft certifications in software development will be an additional advantage
at least ten to twelve years of related experience, preferably in healthcare research organisation including five years on a senior management level
excellent knowledge of software lifecycle, databases and computer programming with strong and successful technical lead experience
good written and verbal communication skills
ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality
strong analytical skills to generate complex matrix reports and create scenario using SQL, SPSS, SAS, data report, crystal report etc.
advanced knowledge and hands-on experience of technologies, server and tools like: Dot Net, SQL Server, Windows Server, Smart phone application, Share point application, GIS tools
sufficient knowledge of applied statistics, modeling and analytical approach to the research data
excellent project management skills including ability to lead work force and manage resources effectively
support other departmental projects on request.
