Senior Instructor/Assistant Professor, Department Of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Section Of Hematology & Transfusion Medicine

Aga Khan University, chartered in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private international university, is committed to the provision of education, research and health care of international standard relevant to Pakistan and the region. The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital has well-equipped investigative services and provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Formal undergraduate, postgraduate and structured residency programs are integrated into the academic functions which are complemented and supported by research. It also serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital which is well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and caters to the needs of the whole country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 286 specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.
Section of Haematology consists of three subsections; Routine Haematology, Haemostasis/Thrombosis & Transfusion Medicine. The section strives to provide the highest standard of hematological care with state-of-the-art laboratory employing up-to-date techniques such as haematology automation, inherited thrombophilia testing and transfusion medicine services which caters to in-hospital transfusion requests and four secondary hospitals as well. The section receives referrals for Haematology diagnostic investigation from all over Pakistan.

The residents have daily hands on practical training during routine daily sign-out with consultants. They are encouraged to do research and get papers published in peer reviewed journals under the supervision of the sectional faculty. The faculty is also actively involved in undergraduate teaching.

Responsibilities
Candidates will be expected to have independent consultant status and undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and specified administrative activities. However, the candidate will mainly focus and lead the sections of transfusion medicine and coagulation with respect to daily services, quality control, CAP audits and up gradation of services.

Requirements
Candidates must have completed their post-graduate training from a reputable institution and possess FCPS, FRCPath, American Board or equivalent qualification. Applicants for Assistant Professor should have three years of experience, while those for Senior Instructor require 1-2 years of experience in a reputable institution. In addition, they should have demonstrated scholarship through research, publications and/or contribution to education.
